RBC | Online directory of behavioral health providers and services called OwnPath launches in Colorado

The Colorado Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) this week launched a new care directory called OwnPath, providing an accessible and seamless experience for anyone in Colorado seeking behavioral health care and services.

Recognizing that we all seek wellness, OwnPath provides individuals with a resource to begin their own path to wellness, no matter where they are. The searchable online directory allows people to find BHA-accredited behavioral health providers and search for specific services or use a guided search to identify providers or resources that best meet their needs. Searches can be restricted by criteria such as location, opening days, language support, types of payment accepted, etc.

“OwnPath is a new resource for Coloradans to provide more people with access to behavioral health services when they need them most. We are committed to developing affordable mental health resources in our state to save people money and ensure that every Colorado has the opportunity to thrive,” Governor Polis said. “I commend Dr. Medlock and the behavioral health workers for their dedication and commitment to improving the lives of our neighbors, friends and family members.”

“OwnPath’s concept is new to the state of Colorado and should dramatically improve access to care. This is the BHA’s first step in building a reinvented behavioral health system,” said BHA Commissioner Dr. Morgan Medlock.

In partnership with the Colorado Digital Service Team of the Governor’s Office of Information Technology (ILO), the BHA is committed to using human-centered design on the OwnPath site, a problem-solving philosophy issues that engages those affected by an issue and ensures that their needs are prioritized when developing solutions.

“To achieve the goals of the BHA, we must first listen to the people of Colorado in order to establish processes that support them. We must thoughtfully systematize how our people engage with our state processes,” said said Dr. Medlock.

From January to May 2022, a group of mental and behavioral health experts came together to design a web-based navigation and care coordination platform for the public that improves accessibility, builds trust with members of the community and is based from the start on understanding the needs of the users. The group’s recommendations guided the orientation of this new tool. Going forward, the BHA will regularly engage people with lived experience to inform OwnPath improvements and new features.

OwnPath can be used in English and Spanish, with more languages to come. MiPropiaSenda, the directory in Spanish, can be found at https://mipropiasenda.co.

In the midst of a widespread mental health crisis, this resource will be essential in ensuring all Colorado residents have easy and accessible access to information about the services available to them.

The crisis line, 1-844-493-8255 (text TALK to 38255), is available if users have an immediate need.
