About Us

The Post-Crescent’s roots go back to 1853, when the Ryan brothers started The Appleton Crescent, named after a great bend in the Fox River that swept through the building where the weekly was printed. In 1859 a competing newspaper appeared, The Appleton Motor, which later became The Appleton Post. The two newspapers fought, first as weeklies and then as dailies, until February 2, 1920, when a merger produced the first Appleton Post-Crescent. The newspaper moved to 306 Washington Street in 1932 and remained a family business until 1983, when it was acquired by Thomson. In 2000, Gannett bought The Post-Crescent. In 2020, our offices moved to historic Appleton Building 222 at 222 W. College Ave.

The Post-Crescent is part of the USA TODAY NETWORK and follows Gannett’s principles of ethical conduct.

Throughout our history, we have been proud to serve and support our community through excellence in journalism. We appreciate your support and we will work hard to earn your trust.

Our diversity and inclusion efforts

Inherent in our mission is a commitment to ensure that our coverage reflects the diversity of our communities and the people we serve. It is essential that our workforce is also diverse and that we foster an inclusive workplace for all. Each year we will post an overview of who we are and the steps we are taking to move forward. We have produced a gender and racial / ethnic balance analysis of our newsroom, management and coverage area as of July 13, 2021.
