City of Avon launches new app with business and economic information
AVON – City administrator Gregory S. Enos is pleased to announce that the City of Avon is preparing to launch a new app that will allow residents to track a variety of business and economic services in the city.
The app, Discover Avon MA, will feature a comprehensive list of important information relating to the city, such as a business directory, event listings, recreational opportunities, up-to-date news, and information about the city. residents should know about municipal government services and offerings. .
It is now available for download from the Apple Store and Google Play. There is no cost for the application.
The app is funded by a $ 71,000 local pilot grant from the Massachusetts Office of Business Development, which was awarded to the Old Colony Planning Council. The OCPC represents 17 municipalities in the region, including Avon. The communities of Easton, Brockton and Stoughton have also developed an app as part of this grant.
The grant is part of a larger state effort to help municipal relief efforts due to COVID-19, such as promoting local businesses and restaurants (including an incentive for residents to “buy local ”), cultural and recreational highlights and more. It allows cities to share these features in an easy-to-navigate digital format that can be used by anyone with a compatible mobile phone.
“Our local businesses and restaurants, like everyone in the state and nation, have faced an uphill battle during the pandemic and we will continue to support them in any way we can,” said city administrator Enos. . “We hope residents will download this new app as a way to track local shopping and dining opportunities as well as other important information related to city services.”
The City will soon be promoting the app with signs, flyers and banners hung outside local businesses that showcase some of Avon’s businesses.
