The directory, open to all minority businessmen, is free to register and will be free to access when it launches later this year. No matter what your field of activity – be it retail, professional services, construction, trades or any other industry – we want to help you showcase what you have to offer in the Mahoning Valleys and from Shenango.

Registration can be done at BusinessJournalDaily.com/minority-business-directory in just a few minutes. After you register, a Business Journal employee will contact you to verify your information. And beyond providing entrepreneurs with a place to market their business, we’re also giving anyone who signs up a free one-year digital subscription to The Business Journal. Registration is free and there is no obligation to purchase ads.

The repertoire is part of our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, or DCI, platform aimed at diversifying the range of voices featured in the stories and videos we create. As more business leaders sign up, our journalists will also have a resource that expands the scope of potential sources for stories. The registration page also features a form asking respondents for stories and businesses they would like to see covered by The Business Journal.

“We can’t tell stories we don’t know,” says Josh Medore, editor of special projects, who led the effort to create our DCI program. “Good journalism comes from good relationships and to better cover the valley’s business community, we strive to foster relationships that will help us better cover the region’s minority business community. “

Over the past several months, Business Journal staff have worked to develop a platform of diversity, equity and inclusion to guide efforts to live up to our mission of supporting business growth. , industry, and quality of life in northeastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. This mission cannot be accomplished without serving all sectors of the community equally and equitably.

Part of our job has been to create a declaration on diversity, equity and inclusion – which can be read HERE – with advice from other news organizations and community stakeholders. And going forward, Business Journal staff will participate in training that will help us better recognize the challenges people of color face, better address those issues in our coverage, and enable us to update and update. improve our DCI policy.

Through these efforts, Youngstown Publishing Co. is committed to fostering an inclusive and thriving business community that reflects the diversity of our region. It is a job that must be done and it is a job that cannot be done alone.
